Hello, and welcome to the Avanade Advisor, our forum for sharing the tips, best practices, and other advice from our technologists to our colleagues and customers in the Americas.

In this issue, we take a hard look at the challenge of platform migrations. There a variety of reasons why customers will elect to migrate to a new platform-the need to integrate legacy applications, the end-of-life of a current platform, and many others. But what exactly are the benefits? And, how can one mitigate risks and ensure migration success?

Our technologists look at these questions in light of actual migrations performed in the areas of Notes-to-Exchange and VB6 to .NET, and share their tips, best practices, and lessons learned. The articles include tips for deciding when migrations are necessary, recognizing benefits, applying best practices for successful execution. Each includes a real-world example of these migrations in action with our customers.

You'll also find out how Digonex Technologies teamed with Avanade to develop "Nabit", which is a dynamic pricing application built in Windows that revolutionized eBay. Looking to the future, we take a look at the changed face of Reporting Services in SQL Server 2005, and how it can deliver a powerful Business Intelligence solution.

Thank you for your time and interest. As always, we look forward to receiving your comments or story ideas - simply send as an e-mail to editor@avanadeadvisor.com.
